As a general rule, unless you are a complete PC novice with no desire to learn I recommend not upgrading anything on the dell site. You are best off buying upgrades from ebuyer.
Ebuyer are cheap and cheerful while still offering free delivery on orders over £50. They have practically every PC upgrade you can imagine with many user reviews. The free delivery is where it has the edge over other shops. You might on the odd occasion be able to buy, say a hard drive, cheaper elsewhere but when delivery is factored in, ebuyer usually wins.
Its probably worth doing a google shopping search before you purchase but its rare for me to shop elsewhere. Ebuyer’s returns and customer service are top notch. Think about this before you shop elsewhere.
The exception to this is Crucial. They have a handy memory scanner tool that tells you what memory to buy. Prices can be a little more than ebuyer but sometimes cheaper. The best thing about Crucial is that they guarantee that your memory will work in your machine. Next best thing is that the memory is guaranteed for life. I had a faulty stick once. I just rang them up, sent back the memory and they sent me a new stick.
Other shops I use for computer upgrades are Amazon, Play, Scan, Dabs, Overclockers, Maplin, PCWorld and Misco. They sometimes have special offers that are worth considering. One thing to note about Play is that there is no VAT. It doesn’t matter for home users but if you are a business and can claim VAT back you won’t be able to with Play.
